How does Liraglutide (Saxenda) work?

Liraglutide mimics GLP-1, a hormone your body makes naturally to regulate appetite. It helps you feel fuller for longer, reducing hunger and supporting weight loss when combined with healthy lifestyle changes.

How much weight will I lose on Liraglutide?

Most patients lose between 5% and 10% of their starting body weight within 12 months, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and regular physical activity.

Is Liraglutide the same as Saxenda?

Yes. Saxenda is the brand name for the liraglutide formulation used in weight management (prescribed at 3.0mg daily). Victoza is a different brand of liraglutide used for type 2 diabetes.

How is Liraglutide administered?

Liraglutide is a daily self-injection using a pre-filled pen, starting at a low dose and gradually increasing over 5 weeks to the full 3.0mg dose. Our pharmacist will guide you through the technique.

How long will I take Liraglutide?

Typically 3 to 12 months, reviewed at regular appointments. If you haven't lost at least 5% of your starting weight after 12 weeks at the full dose, your pharmacist may discuss alternative options.
